Spotlight on… Edinburgh

The largest annual cultural event in the world takes place this month in Edinburgh, Scotland. The Edinburgh Fringe Festival lets you take in performances from the world’s best comedians while also providing a platform for niche comics, street performers and buskers. The festival runs throughout the entire month of August and into September.

Performances run the full day and into the early hours. So why not enjoy a round of golf at one of the many city courses, then unwind in the evening with drinks and a show?

Some of the best golf courses in the city include…

Braid Hills Golf Course – Spectacular vistas of the entire city can be enjoyed from Braid Hills Golf Course on the South side of Edinburgh. Rolling scenery and plenty of gorse make this course an enjoyable test. No two holes are the same, and the par 3s are among the best in the city

Prestonfield Golf Club – Prestonfield Golf Club boasts the best views of Arthur’s Seat and Salisbury Crags. Arthur’s Seat is an extinct volcano which dominates the Edinburgh sky line. Don’t let the view distract you, though, as you work your way round the bottom at Prestonfield. Although the first few holes are short, they present ample opportunity to get yourself in trouble. Play conservatively to start, then open those shoulders up for the middle part of the course.

Swanston Golf Club – Situated at the bottom of the Pentland Hills, Swanston Golf Club has something for everyone. With a challenging 18-hole course and an equally enjoyable 9-hole course for shorter rounds, Swanston is fast becoming a favourite with our Edinburgh-based golfers. Be sure to enjoy a meal after your round in the Swanston Brasserie – we can vouch that their Hot Chocolate is the cure to any frustrating day on the course.

Silverknowes Golf Course – On the northern tip of the city lies Silverknowes Golf Course. Beautiful views of the Firth of Forth from the club house and first tee greet you. Part of the Edinburgh Leisure group of 5 courses in and around the city, Silverknowes is a gentle walk with some really interesting par 4s, and it offers great value for your trip to the city.
