#GolfNowRoadTrip | We’ve seen it all
‘Yeah, absolutely, let’s get it booked.’
We’ve all been guilty of it. Those catch ups with friends, a few beers consumed and the dream golf trip away is born. Locations are discussed, courses are explored and then, quick as a flash, the conversation moves on.
‘We should do a Scottish Roadtrip?’
‘I’ve always wanted to go to Troon.’
……’See the match last night?’.
We’ve seen it all.
When planning a golf trip among friends, it’s important to stick to the point. Don’t let conversation drift too far from the matter at hand. There’s one goal here and that doesn’t include the form and fortunes of your favourite football team. It’s not your fault, to be honest, it’s textbook golf trip planning. At this point the trip exists but purely a pipedream.
Weeks and months go by and one day the phone lights up. You’ve been added to ‘Grip it and Sip it‘. The group chat.
One of the lads has had a quiet weekend and between the two games of Super Sunday, has grabbed the bull by the horns. The organiser has arrived. A legend among the squad.
The first message will seem somewhat familiar. We’ve all had variations of it.
‘Right lads, this has gone on too long. I know it was mentioned last Christmas (and the Christmas before), but take this as the first step. Are we all still game to make this golf trip happen?’
‘Absolutely.’ ‘Finally.’ ‘What took you so long?’ ‘What’s this?’ (There’s always one) ‘Count me in!’
In 2025 the creation of a group chat is a real sign that something is brewing. Enthusiasm is at an all time high at this stage. Settling on a location just heightens it. We’re going on this trip and nothing will stop us.
Developments. The group chat has had an update.
Jim changed the group name from “Grip it and Sip it” to “Grip it and Sip it | Scotland | Aug ’25”
HUGE.
The hotels are now sorted (free cancellation, we’re not stupid and we’ve been down this road before). The travel plans, we’ve got an eye on them but there’s nothing set in stone. The wheels are officially in motion.
Fast forward a fortnight or two. Safe to say the chat isn’t quite as lively as it once was but it is active and that’s all we need at this stage.
Every now and again the highest handicapper throws in a TikTok video showcasing ‘The best Guinness in [insert random town]’. He’s got the ok to a night away and 36 holes, there’s no way we’re letting this permission slip go to waste.
Hours go by. Days go by. A week passes.
One final update, ‘Jeez that looks creamy, Davey’.
…..
…
Silence.
And just like that. The dream golf trip that nearly took off. Grounded.
We’ve seen it all.
Thankfully, we know four lads with a bit of get up and go. A group to look up to. A group to inspire. A group capable of seeing it through.
Better still, there’s an app out there that not only can book tee times at thousands of courses across the globe but is capable of creating stories and can carve memories to last a lifetime. Welcome to the #GolfNowRoadTrip.
