Herons Reach Golf Club

One of the prestigious championship golf clubs in the county, Heron’s Reach in Blackpool was designed by Peter Allis and Clive Clarke, and features testing water features on 12 of its 18-holes. Ten man-made lakes and rush-filled meres – featuring all sorts of wonderful wildlife – dissect the fairways in several places and consequently heighten the challenge of playing there. Sprawling over 236 acres of beautiful Lancashire parkland, it measures 6461 yards and has a par of 72. Its practice facilities are also comprehensive and state-of-the-art, offering an eighteen bay floodlit driving range, chipping area, putting greens and much more besides. Trolley and buggy hire is available, as are lessons for all standards of player from the club’s professionals.

Lytham Green Drive Golf Club

Luscious, verdant parkland course awaits you at Lytham Green Drive Golf Club, one of the finest in Lancashire as any discerning golfer will testify. It invites you to play a wide variety of golf and tests almost every shot in your bag, with its assortment of different challenges and approaches to most greens. The undulating fairways complicate matters for you even more, so be sure you are feeling confident about your short game before teeing off. It measures 6305 yards from the tee on the first hole to the pin on the 18th and offers a generous par of 70. The James Steer designed course celebrates its centenary in 2013 and has stood proudly just outside Lytham town centre since it relocated there in 1920.

Shaw Hill Golf & Spa Hotel

Set amid 192 acres Shaw Hill offers unrivalled Golf facilities in a delightful Lancashire rural setting. The mature course is considered to be one of the finest parkland courses in the North of England. This fair but challenging Par 72 Championship course, gives reward to both the low and higher handicapper. The scenic charm of the golf course belies a stern test for every level of golfer. Several strategically placed ponds, a meandering brook, internal out of bounds and hundreds of trees await any errant shots. With heavily bunkered greens, frequent dog-legs, long par threes and awkwardly placed ponds, good course management is a must. Yet, the curious nature of the course rewards long hitting on the par fives in particular and accuracy on the shorter par fours and threes.

Duxbury Park Golf Club

Set deep in the Lancashire countryside, with views of the local countryside and far beyond, Duxbury Park Golf Club is a fine place to while away a leisurely morning or afternoon. It is set on wooded parkland, fine terrain to challenge the ability of any golfer – whether high or low handicapper – and sprawls through the landscape for 5843 yards. This makes it by no means the longest golf course in the area, but the standard scratch score of 70 certainly gives you a good indication of the challenges that lie in wait for you.
