Spotlight on… The Belfry
When you think of The Belfry – host venue to four epic Ryder Cup contests between 1985 and 2002 – you’d be forgiven if all you envisaged was the immaculately prepared Brabazon course that’s whipped up so many iconic golfing moments. The Brabazon is without doubt the jewel in the resort’s crown but, as we found out on a recent visit, there is an abundance of world-class facilities on- and off-course that make The Belfry the ultimate venue.
Set against the backdrop of 550 acres of North Warwickshire countryside, The Belfry is one of Europe’s leading golf destinations, having recently been voted “England’s Leading Resort,” “England’s Best Golf Hotel” and “England’s Best Golf Course.” In addition to 319 luxury bedrooms and 15 suites in the hotel, there’s something for everyone with a wide range of quality bars, restaurants, spa facilities and, of course, three brilliant golf courses.
Located just 10 minutes from Birmingham’s International Airport, The Belfry allows golfers to follow in the footsteps of legends like Seve Ballesteros, Nick Faldo, Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods, who have all graced The Brabazon. But it also allows golfers to sample the supremely conditioned PGA National course – a spectacular inland links layout – as well as The Derby, the perfect track for those preferring something less challenging.
For those looking to work on their golf game away from the course, the PGA Academy offers an ideal setting with world-class tuition, custom fitting and short-game facilities. Step off the course or the range and you’re presented with the finest dining options, including The Ryder Cup Grill, Ryder Kitchen, Sam’s Bar and the aptly-named Rocca’s Pizza Pasta restaurant. There are also several bars to enjoy a drink, with the onsite Bel Air nightclub and the luxurious Brabazon Bar the real standouts.
And there’s more. A luxury spa with treatment rooms, finishing studio and ESPA products provides ample choice for relaxation, as does the Fire & Ice treatment in the state-of-the-art Health Club. And for kids there’s an interactive Woodland Walk, a brand new playground and a Ryder Legends mini golf course.
The resort has also become home to major conferences and events, with six boardrooms and over 20 conference suites accommodating up to 400 guests.
When you visit The Belfry, The Brabazon is a must, but with the abundance of world-class facilities surrounding the course, it’s not hard to see why the venue sets the benchmark for all golf resorts.
