Golf at Halloween | Nearby Spooks
A birdie putt from 15ft. You fancy it and to be honest, we all fancy you to make it. Yikes! Bit of a misread there. A tricky 6 footer to save par. You should have birdied this hole and you know it. All sorts of thoughts are running through your head – what happened? It’s you, the ball and the hole…not forgetting the voices inside your head and the shivers down the spine. Forget Halloween, us golfers know there’s nothing scarier than the prospect of a three putt. We’ve all been there. We’re a different breed, while others may prefer a fright this Halloween season, we get our kicks on the course! So here’s 5 golf courses near the UK & Ireland’s Most Haunted destinations.
The Dobbins Inn – 3mins from Carrick Golf Club
We’re kicking things off in Carrick. A fantastic club set along the shoreline of the Belfast lough. This won’t be the longest track you’ll tee it up on but the strategically placed bunkers and water hazards make for challenging test. Whatever the level of golfer, you’ll thouroughly enjoy your trip to the historic town of Carrickfergus.
For those chasing thrills off the course, The Dobbins Inn is a must visit. Elizabeth, is told to be a lovely lady… it’s a shame, ‘Maud’ as she is known locally, is the ghost that’s been haunting the Inn from the 15th century. Feel that icy stroke on your face? That’s Maud.

A trip to the nearby Ostrich Inn, now that’s something you might regret! The gruesome history of this old inn goes before it, where a former landlord and his wife are said to be responsible for the murder of over 60 guests! In recent times guests chasing their spooks are said to have experienced electrical interferences and cold spots in the rooms where victims were believed to be stored. Not. For. Me.
