Tour De Yorkshire – Golf Edition

The curtains have finally drawn on four gruelling stages of the 2018 Tour De Yorkshire cycling race. This newly formed event has become extremely popular and was recently contested covering nearly 500 miles of Yorkshires roads and finest towns – passing many of the superb golf courses at the same time.

So, what better time to swap the bike for the clubs and hit the fairways with our ‘Tour de Yorkshire style’ with some of the finest golf courses in Yorkshire.

Stage 1 – Doncaster, Bawtry Golf & Country Club

Bawtry Golf and Country Club is an 18-hole parkland course with a range of challenging hazards and tight fairways. Superbly designed and maintained in an immaculate condition, it is a course which will test both your swing and club selection!

Stage 2  – Ilkley, Bracken Ghyll Golf Club

Situated in Addingham, Nr Ilkley, West Yorkshire, Bracken Ghyll is a jewel in the crown of Yorkshire Golf Clubs with stunning views of the Wharfe Valley. The short 17th “Quarry Hole” is Bracken Ghyll’s signature hole. A par 3, at 148 yards off the white tees demanding an accurate tee shot to a raised green flanked down the right by a stream that gathers many balls. It can be a card breaker at the end of your round. The challenging 14th hole is stroke index 1, just under 500 yards par-5 and the approach to the green is guarded by a large tree on each side of the fairway!

Stage 3  – Scarborough, Scarborough North Cliff Golf Club

Although Scarborough North Cliff Golf Club dates back to 1909, the present course was designed by James Braid and established in 1928. The course starts on the cliff top and then moves inland threading its way between trees and spinneys, with lovely views of the North Yorkshire Moors before returning to the cliff top for the final three holes. The course is sufficiently undulating to be interesting without being excessively hilly and is a tough but fair test for golfers of all abilities.

Stage 4  – Leeds, Leeds Golf Centre

Winners of Club Of The Year 2018 at the England Golf Awards this championship golf course offers 18 dramatic holes set within stunning woodland scenery. With bunkers galore and breathtaking water hazards including a lake and fountain guarding the 18th green, Wike Ridge has been beautifully created by master course designers to offer a complete golfing experience. Featuring our impressively long 629 yard second hole, this course is an exhilarating challenge for even scratch golfers.
