Visiting Ireland’s capital city? You’re in for a treat! Dublin is the epicentre of all activity in the country and a popular spot for tourists. It’s a place of decadence and culture especially if you plan to spend your trip drinking in the world-renowned city pubs. However, there’s more to Dublin than a keg of Guinness. Irish golf is famed across the globe, the World’s current number one golfer from the North and the current Champion golfer of the year in the South. Not bad for a tiny speck on the global map! In our latest blog we look at golf courses surrounding Dublin. The five courses below represent 5 very different challenges in and around Ireland’s capital city.

 

 

Palmerstown House Estate

The 7,419 yard Palmerstown House Golf Course presents players with feelings of tradition, excellence and quality. The challenging course is set amidst thousands of mature trees that boast a variety of colour throughout all four seasons, and each hole has its own individual charm. When you arrive, you will soon realise that the Palmerstown Course has the capability to become legendary on the Irish and European golfing map over the years to come. The course is open to visitors all year round. No handicap certificate is required, although beginners might find this championship course demanding.  

 

 

 

Killeen Castle Golf Course

Killeen Castle Golf Club is located 30mins from Dublin city centre and is home to a Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course. Host of the Ladies Irish Open 2011-2013 and the 2011 Solheim Cup this world class golf course is a magnificent test of golf, showcasing modern golfing excellence in terms of design and presentation. Killeen Castle Golf Club can boast not only a glorious landscape and idyllic setting, but a golfing experience unlike any other. Killeen Castle Golf Club is a wonderful test of golf, and certainly one of Nicklaus’ finest creations whilst also being voted regularly the Best Parkland Course in the greater Dublin area.  

 

 

 

Carton House Golf Club – Montgomerie Course

Carton House Golf Club is a club with a soul. A club with a unique style of its own. A club with a passion for golf. European Golf Resort of the Year in 2008 this Co. Kildare gem is located just 14 miles west of Dublin City Centre and 30 minutes from Dublin Airport. Carton House plays home to a stylish hotel, a luxurious spa and leisure suite, two of Ireland’s finest championship golf courses alongside an array of sporting facilities. The sports stars we all know and love, love it here! Back in 2009, Real Madrid trained here ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo’s debut for the club Vs Shamrock Rovers.  

 

 

 

Luttrellstown Castle Golf & Country Club

An 18-hole championship course set within the 567 acre walled estate of Luttrellstown Castle. Luttrellstown Castle Golf Club is a short 20 minute drive from Dublin. Designed by Steele and MacKenzie, this parkland layout is truly beautiful! Measuring over 7,374 yards, this course is quite the challenge! Watch out for the water hazards which feature on 11 holes. Accuracy from the tee will be vital to have a good round!
